About the workshop:
Academic careers are demanding and building one that is both impactful and sustainable is a challenge for every early and mid-career researcher. This interactive workshop brings career progression and well-being together, rather than treating them as competing goals. Drawing on Professor Michelle Tuckey’s research and its real-world impact, the session will explore what helps people thrive in academia and what puts them at risk. Through a keynote presentation, a panel with ECU colleagues, an introduction to job crafting and recovery, plus a hands-on session exploring how evidence-based principles can be applied in practice, you’ll end the day with practical, strategies to shape your role, protect your well-being, and sustain your impact. Come ready to reflect, share, and co-design ideas you can use to support your well-being throughout your academic career.

Professor Michelle Tuckey is Professor of Work and Organisational Psychology at Adelaide University, where her research advances the prevention of workplace bullying and sexual harassment by tackling root causes in the system of work. Collaborating with organisations across diverse industry sectors, she has uncovered the organisational risks that drive mistreatment and developed practical ways to ‘design out’ bullying and harassment – an approach that shaped an award-winning prevention program reaching nearly 10,000 employees. Professor Tuckey has contributed to landmark independent reviews of workplace culture, including Set the Standard (Australian Human Rights Commission) and Strengthening the Service (Queensland Human Rights Commission), and advised national bodies such as Safe Work Australia and the Australian Medical Association. She has published over 120 significant research outputs, an severs as an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology and the Journal of Organizational Behavior.
