Talk by Leon Costermans
conservationist who has dedicated his life to teaching Victorians about the natural environment. His childhood exploration of the Yarra River and time as a Scout sparked a lifelong passion for the bush. To address a lack of accessible resources, he authored several highly regarded books for non-specialists, including Trees of Victoria (1966) and the extensive Stories beneath our feet (2022). In 2024, he received the Medal of the Order of Australia for his environmental service. At 90, he continues to support community conservation groups.
