ABOUT THE HISTORIC VENUE: ADELAIDE LEAD STATE SCHOOL (NO. 25)
The venue for the night is steeped in local history:
* Gold Rush Origins: Adelaide Lead began as an 1850s gold mining settlement along Timor Creek, named by South Australian miners who arrived on the fields.
* The Schoolhouse: Built as a common school and opening in 1863 (making it School Number 25 in Victoria), the building was constructed using locally handmade bricks.
* Generations of Local Life: For decades, it served the families of the mining community. In the late 1880s, head teacher David Bilton and his wife taught here, commuting by horse and buggy from Craigie. Former pupils also went on to serve in World War I, commemorated by a local honour roll.
* Transition to a Hall: As mining faded and populations shifted, the school officially closed in 1954. The building was taken over to serve as the community hall, hosting decades of local dances and now providing an authentic backdrop for historical and paranormal exploration.
