Join the Cairns Historical Society, Cairns Jockey Club and David Cannon for the unveiling of the Cannon Family Memorial, recognising William Cannon and the family's significant contribution to the development of Cairns and horse racing in the region.William Cannon donated the land that became the Cairns Jockey Club's first permanent racecourse, with the venue later becoming known as Cannon Park. This special event forms part of Cairns' 150th anniversary commemorations and celebrates the family's lasting legacy.
The morning will include a historical presentation by local historian and family descendant David Cannon, followed by the unveiling of the memorial plaque. Guests will then enjoy a roast lunch overlooking the racecourse.
