Can You Choreograph? (In studio choreography competition)

Have you ever watched a performance and imagined creating one of your own? Now is your chance!Our Can You Choreograph? competition is designed to inspire creativity, confidence and artistic expression by giving our students the opportunity to become choreographers.
Competition Date: Sunday 6 September (in studio)
Who Can Enter? Open to all Sara Jane Studios students.
Students may enter one routine in each division, meaning you could enter:
- One Solo
- One Duo
- One Group
Judging
This competition celebrates creativity.
Rather than focusing solely on difficult tricks or advanced technique, judges will be looking for originality, musicality, storytelling, performance quality, use of formations and the overall creativity of the choreography.
Entry Fees:
Competition Entry: $25 per student for registration- paid via trybooking
Section Entry: $5 per routine/per child (eg each duo partner pays $5)- paid cash in studio once you have decided what sections you are entering
Your entry fee includes:
-Costume hire from some of existing studio costume collection (or you're welcome to source your own costume)
- Allocated studio rehearsal time for participants to meet, collaborate and practise
- Competition administration
- Awards and prizes
- Helping us engage paid guest judges if possible
Competition Rules
- All choreography must be created by a Sara Jane Studios student
- Students may choreograph a routine for themselves, another student, or a group of students.
- Students performing a routine do not have to be the choreographer, but can be
- Routines must be no longer than 2 minutes.
- All music must be a clean, age-appropriate edit with no explicit language or inappropriate themes.
Awards & Recognition
In addition to overall winners in each section, we will also present a range of Specialist Awards to recognise different strengths in choreography. Awards may recognise areas such as:
* Creativity
* Musicality
* Storytelling
* Originality
* Performance Quality
* Innovative Use of Space
The highest honour of the competition is the Can You Choreograph Champion Award.
The recipient of this award will earn the exciting opportunity to perform their choreography at the Sara Jane Studios End of Year Concert, showcasing their work in front of our studio community.
Whether you've choreographed before or this is your very first attempt, this competition is your opportunity to think creatively, challenge yourself and discover what you can create.
Listen to your favourite music, experiment with movement, work with friends and bring your ideas to life. We can't wait to see the incredible talent and imagination our students have to share.
