Acrylic Painting Techniques and Mediums
About
1 Day Acrylic Painting Techniques Workshop with Linda MacAulay.Acrylics are amazingly versatile. It is my experience that most painters move into acrylic paints from another medium and do not take full advantage of all that this amazing medium has to offer.
During this workshop, we will explore the use of acrylic painting techniques and mediums by painting a simple pear a number of ways.
Participants will leave with 5 or 6 x A5 paintings of the same pear, each using a different technique. Please note…this is not a workshop on painting a still life, but way to quickly master and compare techniques unique to acrylics.
Along the way we will learn why, when and how you need to use an acrylic painting medium and some of the different effects you can achieve by adding a medium.
This workshop is designed to give you an overview to the technical side of acrylic painting enabling you to take your paintings to the next level.
We will cover the following topics.
• Surface preparation-not all Gesso’s are created equal when it comes to acrylics.
• Making a low cost palette that prevents your paints from drying out.
• Blending in acrylics.
• Mediums that control drying speed.
• Mediums –that add body and texture.
• Glazing and ‘wet on wet” techniques in acrylics
Learn how layering and combining these techniques can create some great effects.
All mediums will be supplied. Participants will be required to bring their own paint, brushes and substrate to paint on.
