Brass and Bites
About
"Food, glorious food" - the culinary and musical arts have been inextricably linked since cave dwellers first chewed on a mammoth leg and then used the bones to craft flutes and drum sticks. Following their success at the State Band Championships in May, the Victoria Park Brass Band return to the stage with a program to satisfy both the soul and the taste buds - a concert in which each item is accompanied by an appropriate morsel - Gershon Kingsley 70's hit Popcorn, with a bowl of popcorn. Pure Imagination [Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory] with a block of chocolate, and, of course, the title music of the classic animated film Chicken Run with chicken pies. Scones infused with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme accompany an arrangement for two solo trombones and band of the timeless classic, Scarborough Fair, while a virtuoso work for three solo cornets and band entitled Chinese Takeaway has our band's chefs scrambling for their woks. The band’s conductor, David Pye, commented “I am looking forward to presenting my own composition "Tuber Variations” in which we celebrate the humble potato". Victoria Park Brass performances are always injected with fun - a classic march, a couple of polkas and plenty of juicy titbits to keep audiences salivating for more.Doors open at 4:30pm for a 5pm Concert, and all tickets will include a tasting plate aligned with our programme. We will also be holding a raffle on the day!
