Stained glass windows in Brighton churches, schools, homes and even the cemetery offer captivating insights into aspects of religion, architecture, economics and society as our area has grown and evolved.Dr Bronwyn Hughes OAM is an art historian who has researched Australian stained glass for more than forty years. Her talk will highlight Brighton stained glass treasures, some still firmly in situ, others lost or forgotten.
Prior to her ‘retirement’, Bronwyn taught glass studies at Monash University, Holmesglen Institute and the University of Melbourne. She now promotes glass in contemporary architecture and conservation of historic glass through the not-for-profit organisation, GLAAS Inc. She writes a regular column, ‘Windows on History’ for the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, and her book, 'Lights Everlasting: Australia’s Commemorative Stained Glass from the Boer War to Vietnam', was published in 2023.
The talk will be preceded by the President’s Report, Treasurer’s Report and election of the Committee, and will be followed by afternoon tea.
