Stamp Carving for Beginners
About
Join Helen in a fun workshop, aimed at beginners, where you will learn how to hand carve some surprisingly simple rubber stamps. Do you remember potato stamping at kindergarten? This is just a bit more sophisticated, but just as much fun. It’s very easy, a steady hand helps but we’re not aiming for perfection - just learning a new skill and embracing simple shapes that can then be repeated and combined to form more complex patterns. You will learn how to safely use the carving tools, what rubber works best (some surprises here!), and how to keep it simple for really effective results. We will also test out our stamps using stamp pads and inks, printing on paper and card. The stamps can then be further refined, and new ideas will surface for the next carvings.
What can you use your carved stamps for? Helen uses hers to make greeting cards and gift tags, to stamps designs on wrapping paper, on book covers, and as an element in mixed media art pieces. We will also discuss the use of the stamps on fabric, what kinds of inks and paints can be used on fabric and other surfaces - you might like to try your stamps at home on fabrics. For the purpose of this workshop we will be stamping on paper and card only.
You will take home your carved stamps, lots of knowledge and ideas for further investigation, and a stash of gift tags and greeting cards you made in the workshop. Join is for lots of fun, no stress, just inspiration for a new skill you might like to pursue further.
Everything is provided.
