Anne will present an illustrated talk on several National Trust gardens she visited recently in the UK, including Beningbrough Hall in Yorkshire and Biddulph Grange in Staffordshire. She will highlight some of the historic garden features which can be seen in the gardens.
The gardens and their individual features, many of them hundreds of years old create a fascinating picture of past times, and with the plantings, some of which are historic or which reference the past eras of the gardens, add a beautiful space to the landscape, preserving it for the future and giving inspiration and pleasure to the numerous visitors.
ANNE SMITH Bio 2026
Anne is a keen photographer and occasional garden writer, having written articles for Our Gardens magazine and the AGHS journal. She is a speaker for the Royal Botanic Gardens Foundation and Friends Speakers Bureau. Anne was the Sydney Regional Co-ordinator for Australia’s Open Garden Scheme (which became Open Gardens Australia) for 10 years, organising the annual program, writing copy for all the region’s gardens for the annual Guide Book and writing weekly Media Releases. Prior to that she taught primary school for 25 years.
She is a past AGHS Sydney Committee member and past Branch Chair. She edited the newsletter, Branch Cuttings for many years and has presented talks for AGHS.
