Gabriel Rockhill - A Teach in on Fascism and Imperialism
About
Teach-in: Confronting Fascism and Imperialism Today – Hosted by Gabriel Rockhill and Red AntThe current world conjuncture is marked by two undeniable trends: the return of the far right as a serious social force and the accelerating pace of imperialist violence.
Across 2026 far right forces have emerged and taken power in Japan, Peru and Colombia. They join neofascist incumbents in India, Italy, the United States, the Philippines and elsewhere. On the horizon wait a series of dogged far right contenders—France’s National Rally, the Alternative for Germany, and, in so-called Australia, Pauline Hanson’s One Nation. Over the same span of time, the U.S. led imperialist alliance has launched a series of increasingly shameless offensives against the Global South: the abduction of Venezuela's sitting president in January; the bombing of Iran in February; the intensification of the blockade on Cuba; and the ongoing atrocities in occupied Palestine.
Historical materialism tells us these tendencies are related. The world regime of imperialist accumulation is obviously in decline, and fascism, we know, is a technique deployed by the ruling class to manage conditions of capitalist crisis. Still, the classical Marxist theory of fascism cannot remain in a time-capsule; it must be developed, updated for twenty-first century conditions. What is the class composition of the rising far right and fascist forces? What are the causes of the crisis of the imperialist system? And what is the relation between today’s liberals and tomorrow's fascists? These are just some of the questions we consider in this teach-in, hosted by Gabriel Rockhill. We raise them in order to build an answer to the most important question of all: how do we organise ourselves into a social power capable of confronting fascism and imperialism?
Full program to be announced.
This event is hosted by Red Ant as part of Rockhill's tour of so-called Australia. See all events here.
