About

“Envisioning a world where every person, regardless of gender, geography, socioeconomic status, or identity, can realize their right to accessible, affordable, quality cancer prevention and care”
Lancet Commission on Women, Power and Cancer.

You’re invited to join us for a presentation by Dr Ophira Ginsburg, medical oncologist, global women’s health researcher and founding chair of the Lancet Commission on Women Power and Cancer.

Dr Ginsburg will discuss the objectives of the Commission, and outline the content of its 2023 report, which focussed on global trends in cancer risks and survival for women, and the ways in which power dynamics shape the experiences of cancer for women as patients, clinicians and carers. She will outline the Commission’s early impact, including on the development of the European Women and Cancer Index launched in 2026, and its future research agenda.

About Dr. Ginsburg:
Dr. Ophira Ginsburg is a Canadian/American physician-scientist and global public health leader with over 20 years of experience in cancer control and women’s health, with a focus on advancing equity through research, policy, and implementation. She served as a medical officer at the World Health Organization, as a senior visiting scientist WHO’s specialized cancer agency (IARC), and from 2022-2025 as Senior Advisor for Clinical Research at the U.S. National Cancer Institute’s Center for Global Health. She has authored over 150 publications including peer-reviewed publications and commentaries in The Lancet, The Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature Medicine, JAMA, and Nature Cancer. In 2022 she received the Humanitarian Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
Dr. Ginsburg has held academic appointments at the University of Toronto, NYU, and most recently at Imperial College London, where until September (2026) she served as the Provost’s Visiting Professor of Global Cancer Equity. She currently serves as a consultant with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders and the Global Cancer Research and Training Program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and holds honorary professorial appointments with Imperial College London and the George Institute for Global Health.
