Do you want to build your skills and confidence in working with clients with acquired brain injury such as stroke or traumatic brain injury? This workshop will present strategies for working with individuals who present with cognitive impairment. You will also develop expertise in delivering ACT-Adjust, an evidence-based treatment protocol based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy which addresses psychological distress and adjustment after brain injury. This workshop will assist you in moving towards your clinical values by providing opportunities to develop your skills through experiential exercises with fellow practitioners. You will be provided with a Therapist Manual, Client Workbook and treatment resources to implement the treatment immediately in your clinical practice.

WORKSHOP INCLUSIONS

All participants will receive a Therapy Pack which includes a Therapist Manual, Client Workbook and materials required to practise the experiential exercises and role plays with other clinicians. Attendees will also be able to download an electronic version of the Client Workbook to be used with clients as needed.

Therapy Packs will be posted to attendees following registration.

Note: As workshop materials are posted to registrants, only partial refunds will be provided for cancellations after booking.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the conclusion of the workshop:

  • Participants will acquire knowledge about the cognitive, psychological, emotional and behavioural sequelae of acquired brain injury.
  • Participants will develop an understanding of how to modify therapy and what strategies are required in their delivery to compensate for cognitive impairments post brain injury.
  • Participants will have an understanding of the ACT-Adjust program and to be able to implement the experiential exercises competently.
  • It is expected that following the workshop, participants will have synthesised the workshop content and have the knowledge and skills to deliver the intervention in their clinical practice.
  • Participants will be able to evaluate their performance during small group exercises and discuss their experience with fellow clinicians and make adjustments and changes to their delivery.
