Why We Run This Program
The Interstate Roving Patrol is much more than a holiday.
It is designed to help our younger members develop confidence, leadership and practical lifesaving skills by experiencing surf patrols in a different environment. Participants gain valuable insight into how the training and standards we learn at Coalcliff are applied nationally while building friendships and proudly representing our club.
Many former participants have returned more confident, more capable and more engaged within the club after experiencing this program.
Participant Commitment
Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club heavily subsidises this opportunity because we see it as an investment in the future leaders of our club.
In return, participants are expected to make a genuine commitment to the upcoming surf lifesaving season and contribute positively to club life.
Participants will be expected to:
- Actively patrol throughout the 2026/27 season.
- Participate in a roster supporting the Nippers canteen.
- Develop, complete and fulfil an individual Surf Life Saving Development Plan.
- Take on an additional responsibility within the club, such as: being mentored by a committee member; assisting a Nippers Age Manager; leading or contributing to a club project; completing a project that develops leadership skills, surf lifesaving knowledge or future career aspirations.
The Interstate Roving Patrol is about creating opportunities for young members to learn, grow and give back to Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club.
Representing Coalcliff
Participants are ambassadors for Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club throughout the trip. We expect all members to demonstrate respect, teamwork, responsibility and maturity at all times.
This includes:
- Following the directions of trip leaders.
- Showing respect to host clubs, accommodation providers and members of the public.
- Supporting fellow participants throughout the trip.
- Wearing club uniform when requested.
- Upholding the values and reputation of Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club.
Parent & Participant Information Session
Once participant numbers have been confirmed, we will schedule a Parent and Participant Information Session in late August or early September.
The session will provide an opportunity to meet the trip leaders, review the itinerary in detail, discuss accommodation, travel arrangements, packing requirements, patrol expectations, behaviour standards and answer any questions from both parents and participants before departure.
We Look Forward to Another Great Tour
The Interstate Roving Patrol has become one of Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club's signature youth development programs. It provides an opportunity for our young members to broaden their surf lifesaving experience, strengthen friendships, challenge themselves in a new environment and return home with new skills and confidence to contribute to our club.
We look forward to another memorable trip and seeing our participants proudly represent Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club on the Gold Coast.
