The ChOOks and Green Fieldz At The Biersal Brewery - Seaford
About
The ChOOksWendy Ealey and Moira Tyers have been chortling together for a good while. They pop up all over the place entertaining audiences as they celebrate their liberation from high heels and contraception. Energetic, humorous, entertaining, musically strong. An eclectic range performing a blend of original material and well loved songs to tell our stories. They are equally at ease paying tongue in cheek homage to much loved ‘lurve’ ballads as we are giving songs with a bit of social bite a good airing. They have a very scientific method of selecting songs. If they like it, they create a ‘ChOOkified’ version. Sometimes the outcome is surprising and it may take an audience a few moments to twig before the grin and nod of recognition. Other times the room will light up and the audience joins in. The Ch00ks’ mission is to bring joy and truth, providing a capsule of time where feelings are safely felt and memories are savoured.
We keep our audiences guessing. Our sets are dynamic—English Traditional one minute, Rolling Stones the next—then we slip in some of our own table thumpers, tear jerkers or nonsense songs. It often feels as though we’ve made a bunch of friends by the end of a performance.
The ChOOks’ collaboration arose from the Darebin Songwriters’ Guild as its founders (2006).
The ChOOks appearances include the Boîte, the National, Basin, Maldon, Cygnet and Tamar Valley Folk Festivals, Newstead Live Music Festival, Words in Winter, Mt Beauty Music Festival, Wintermoon, National Celtic Festival, Yass Irish Celtic Festival, Kangaroo Valley Festival, Folk by the Sea (Kiama), Bundanoon and Fleurieu Festival. We’ve even sung our way to Perth across the Nullabor on the Indian Pacific train.
We worked on the Unsung Heroes of Australian History project devised by Moira for over ten years with Wendy, Bruce Watson and Neil Robertson touring South Australia, Tasmania, Canberra, Perth and New South Wales for over ten years with Wendy, Bruce Watson and Neil Robertson.
A re-imagined version of the show, ‘Australian Maid’ is currently being developed with new songs and stories.
We recorded our first album ‘Layers’ launched in 2016. Our second album ‘Free Range’ is available now.
Green Fieldz
Green Fieldz is synonymous with brilliant musicianship – from fast, energetic tunes to stunningly beautiful songs. Performing on fiddle, guitar and twin ukuleles, Keith Rea and Sally Carter interlace melodies and harmonies with intricate skill. They have wowed audiences all over Australia and perform at festivals and events. They stop at nothing – and many genres are performed including Celtic, bluegrass, folk, jazz, pop and originals.
Green Fieldz also runs bush dances – the best fun where you don’t have to know much in order to get onto the dance floor and give it a go!
Based on the Mornington Peninsula, Green Fieldz is happy to travel anywhere to do what they do best – play great music and draw audiences into their world with lots of onstage banter and crazy fun.
Gavin Hobson
Gavin has his heart in the right place and this is reflected in his music......."I play guitar, violin and mandolin and will sing my little heart out to any song that hits me the right way…......
I find myself often inspired most by folk tunes and traditional songs that tell real stories from the past. These songs have lasted many lifetimes and been sung by generations and give a deep insight into the historical human experience."
