Discover the evocative qualities of one of the world’s earliest photographic processes in this immersive, collaborative workshop led by artist Charmaine Lyons.Participants will be introduced to the rich visual language of cyanotype, a historic method of photographic printing in which sunlight activates images distinguished by their deep Prussian blue tones. Traditionally applied to paper or fabric, this workshop offers a contemporary interpretation of the process, inviting participants to work directly with contributed Mooloo Pottery forms in intuitive and inventive ways.
Guided by Charmaine, participants will consider the history, materiality and chemistry of cyanotype before experimenting with natural materials and found objects to develop distinctive compositions on ceramic bisque ware. A range of application methods will be explored, including brushing, spraying and full immersion, alongside traditional photogram techniques.
Drawing upon sunlight, water and the inherent unpredictability of the cyanotype process, the workshop encourages close observation, artistic curiosity and open-ended experimentation.
No prior experience is required. Whether you’re a ceramic enthusiast, photographer, practising artist or curious beginner, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to explore the meeting point of photography, ceramics and process-led making.
