2026-14 Andean Pebble Weave on Inkle Looms with Laverne W (SOLD OUT)
About
Although there are unlimited possibilities for weaving beautiful bands in plain weave on inkle looms, perhaps you are now ready to add some images to your bands….geometric patterns and little animal figures sitting on an attractive pebbly background, using a woven structure that Laverne calls Andean Pebble Weave. With the experience of confidently warping your standard inkle loom and weaving plain-weave bands behind you, you can now venture into the world of pick-up patterns with methods that have been designed specifically for your kind of loom and your level of experience. In this two-day class we use your standard inkle looms to explore different methods for producing the same beautiful results so that participants can choose the one that best suits their particular weaving style. We cover plain pebble weave before moving on to creating patterns, and then broaden our study to include optional short-cuts as well as different charting methods that can aid in designing one's own patterns.
Your instructor has spent thirty years while living in both the highlands and lowlands of South America observing and studying the pebbled patterns being produced by indigenous weavers using a variety of simple looms and methods. She brings the best and most suitable aspects of each of these to the methods she presents in this class, taking into account the particular characteristics of the simple, yet versatile, inkle loom.
Two days, Sat 31 Oct and Sun 1 Nov 2026, 10am - 4:00pm (30 min lunch)
PLEASE NOTE: This is an intermediate level class and you must be very familiar with the workings of your loom
