The accredited 2-day course teaches people how to provide initial support to other adults who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.
Participants can expect to gain a more confident ability to;
- identify and demonstrate a basic knowledge of key mental illnesses,
- identify the treatment appropriate for first aid strategies in relation to anxiety, depression, psychosis and substance use problems,
- identify and demonstrate a basic knowledge of mental health crises,
- identify the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help,
- apply strategies to provide first aid to a person experiencing a mental health problem
- apply strategies to speak to colleagues about mental health issues
