"Camp is a double sense in which some things can be taken." —Susan Sontag 1964In his series Cruising for a bruising, Kyle Archie Knight turns a camp lens on the Australian suburbs celebrating the ‘surreal and mundane, humorous and humdrum’ and revealing a playful side of suburban Australia.
Join Kyle for an introduction to his work and an exploration of suburban camp followed by a photowalk to uncover the sublime in the ordinary in Wheelers Hill.
Kyle will share:
What catches his eye
How he creates an interesting composition
How he develops his work
Participants will gain inspiration, take photos in a fun environment and see the suburbs in a different way.
BYO camera (phone camera is fine). This program will involve some walking. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and for walking outside. Meet at MAPh reception.
...About Kyle Archie Knight
Kyle Archie Knight is an Indigenous and queer photographic artist who completed a Bachelor of Arts (Photography) (First Class Honours) at RMIT University in 2022.
Cruising for a Bruising ( 8 July – 5 Oct) presents a selection of work from his ongoing series of the same name. This long-form documentary project serves as a camp love letter to the Australian suburbs.
