Fragments of Service - pot making workshops
About
We warmly invite you to take part in Fragments of Service, a collaborative art project bringing veterans together across Victorian RSL Sub-Branches to create ceramic vessels, each representing a story of service and contributing to a larger shared artwork. As part of the project, Hawthorn RSL will host a day of one-hour pottery workshops on 22 August 2026, where attendees can make their own pot and contribute to this meaningful creative initiative.
Fragments of Service responds to the 5,889 individual submissions made to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide. Over the next two and a half years, Bek will work with veterans across RSL Sub-Branches in Victoria to create 5,889 ceramic vessels—each one representing a unique story of service, sacrifice and lived experience. Together, the vessels will become a collective artwork that honours those stories and creates space for connection, reflection and remembrance.
The workshops will be led by Bek Herron, a veteran artist, former Royal Australian Air Force nurse and RSL Victoria ANZAC Day Ambassador. Medically discharged in 2023 after 21 years’ service, Bek now uses art to support storytelling, connection and wellbeing for veterans and their families.
