Join us in Cooktown for a free weekend of choir leadership and community singing workshops with experienced choir leader Jane Younghusband.Saturday 22 August
10.00 am–12.00 noon — Choir Leadership Workshop
An introductory workshop for people interested in learning practical skills to help lead or conduct a community choir.
1.00 pm–3.30 pm — Returning Choir Participants
A singing workshop for people who participated in the Stronger Together workshops and/or Discovery Festival performance. The group already knows the songs and will support and assist the new choir leaders in learning and rehearsing them.
Sunday 23 August
10.00 am–12.00 noon — Choir Leadership Workshop
A continuation of the leadership and conducting training, including practical opportunities for participants to have a go at leading singers.
1.00 pm–3.30 pm — Full Community Choir
An open singing workshop bringing previous choir participants and new singers together. No previous choir experience is required.
The choir leadership workshops will cover practical skills such as warming up voices, understanding vocal ranges and parts, teaching songs and harmonies, giving starting notes, maintaining tempo, and leading clear beginnings and endings.
These workshops will also help prepare interested singers for a possible performance at the Dr Karl event in late October.
