About

On Saturday 26 September, we will be hosting an exclusive workshop with John O'Connell, the choreographer of the 2001 Moulin Rouge!, Shall We Dance, and Enchanted. John is the recipient of the American Choreography Award for Best Choreography for Moulin Rouge!, one of the highest honours for film choreography. He has also received the Australian Dance Award for Contribution to the Art of Dance, choreographed the 80th Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2008, and has worked extensively with acclaimed director Baz Luhrmann on films including Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, Australia and The Great Gatsby.

Throughout his remarkable career, John has worked alongside some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including Nicole Kidman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Adams, Susan Sarandon, Michael Caine, John Travolta, Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor, and Hugh Jackman.

Date: Saturday 26 September

The day will be divided into three sessions:
Session 1 – Mock Audition (9:00-11:30)
Experience what it's like to audition for a professional production. John will run a realistic audition process, giving participants valuable insight into industry expectations.
Please note: This session is strictly limited to 20 participants, so places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Discounted 'observer' tickets are available.

Session 2 – Industry Q&A (12:30-2:30)
Hear directly from John about his career, the dance industry, audition advice, and professional pathways.
Important: John has requested that all participants watch Moulin Rouge! (2001), Shall We Dance, and Enchanted before attending. This is an essential part of the workshop, as much of the discussion will refer to his work on these productions. If you are unable to commit to watching the films beforehand, this workshop may not be the right opportunity for you.

Session 3 – Behind the Scenes Footage & Discussion (3:00-5:00)
Finish the day with exclusive footage, stories from John's career, and an in-depth discussion about choreography, filmmaking, and the creative process.
