Join the Red Anti-Imperialist Collective and Karu Collective for a free screening and discussion of 'Maa Bhoomi/Our Land' (dir. Goutam Ghose, 1979) to commemorate the 80th anniverary of the historic Telangana Armed Revolution.

This will be the first installation of our 'Revolutionary India on Film' program, a film screening and discussion series on peoples struggles in India against feudalism, capitalism, casteism, and imperialism. From the Telangana Armed Resistance to Naxalbari, and from Kashmir to the forests of the Eastern Ghats, we will be exploring the history and lessons of resistance movements.

The screening will be followed by an online discussion with Srujana Bodapati from the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. Srujana works on agrarian relations and the Indian economy, having participated in several studies around the country. She often writes on issues in the Indian Economy. She will be speaking on the political significance and enduring lessons of the Telangana struggle.

Synopsis:
Set between 1945 and 1951 in the pre-Independence state of Hyderabad, the film tells the story of a young peasant, Ramiah, who rebels against the corrupt rule of the Nizam. Baring witness to the oppression and hardship faced daily by those around him, Ramiah leaves his village. However, after befriending a Marxist activist and participating in the Independence struggle, he eventually returns to wage guerilla warfare against the landlord class.:
