Make Your Own Pearl Buttons
About
Experience a unique piece of Broome’s pearling heritage in this hands-on workshop at the Broome Men’s Shed.Using traditional mother-of-pearl shell, you’ll learn how pearl buttons were once made for the global fashion industry. Guided by experienced volunteers, you’ll cut, shape, sand and polish your own buttons before drilling the sewing holes. At the end of the session, you’ll take home three beautiful 23 mm mother-of-pearl buttons that you made yourself.
No previous experience is required. This workshop is suitable for beginners and offers a fascinating glimpse into one of Broome’s iconic industries. All genders are welcome.
