Unseen Symptoms, Unheard Voices
About
Health Equity for Women with DisabilityIn partnership with Women's Health East and Sexual Health Victoria, Wavlink is delivering three free, accessible, educational health forums for women with disabilities. Carers and support teams are warmly encouraged to attend alongside them, to support access and understanding. Join us in a welcoming, inclusive space to learn, connect and discuss women's health topics that are often overlooked. Sexual Health Victoria will also join us to talk about the cervical screening process and how to access their services.
Session 1 - Cancer Prevention and Screening (Breast, bowel and cervical):
- Ways to reduce your risk
- Symptoms to look out for
- Screening programs
- Where to get more information
Session 2 - Communication and Self-Advocacy
- Explore effective communication and self-advocacy techniques in health care settings
- Q&A with experts by experience, sharing their own experiences and the barriers people living with disability can face in the health care system
Session 3 - Accessing Services and Support
- In-depth detail about the experience of accessing Sexual Health Victoria’s services
- Discussion about the process of having a cervical screening test at SHV, and other testing available.
- An optional, private self-collection cervical screening on the day with Nurse Practitioner support, or help booking a screening appointment if you’d prefer
All sessions are private, respectful and paced to suit participants. Self-collection screening is a simple, private test you can do yourself, with support available if you’d like it.
All sessions are held at 5pm at 36 Myrtle Street, Glen Waverley. A light dinner is provided, catering for all dietary needs.
