Communication Guide Training - Day 1: Understand & Connect

This two-day Communication Guide training gives you the opportunity to learn directly from a Deafblind person and gain insight that you cannot get from a textbook alone.
Whether you are a support worker wanting to work with Deafblind clients, beginning your career in the Deafblind field or already working as a Communication Guide, this training will build your knowledge, practical skills and confidence to work safely and effectively alongside Deafblind people.
Day 1 – 19th September - Connect & Understand
Day 2 – 17th October - Observe & Practise
Day 1 focuses on building your understanding of Deafblindness and the role of a Communication Guide.
Day 2 will be a hands-on session with demonstrations, practical activities and opportunities to develop your skills.
If you cannot attend Day 2 on 17 October, you can attend a future Day 2 session to complete your learning.
Whether you are taking your first step towards working with Deafblind people, looking to strengthen your existing Communication Guide skills or even have a Deafblind family member or friend, this training is an opportunity to learn, connect and gain a deeper understanding of Deafblind communication, needs and experiences.
The workshop will be presented in Auslan.
You do not need to know Auslan to attend. Two Auslan interpreters will be provided throughout the workshop.
Morning tea is also provided.
