PRACTICAL STRATEGIES FOR BUILDING HEALTHIER, MORE RESILIENT VINEYARDS.

What is happening beneath the soil surface – and how does it influence the health of the vine above it?

Join internationally experienced plant and soil health educator Joel Williams of Integrated Soils for a practical three-hour session exploring the connections between soil biology, plant nutrition and vine health.

Moving from the soil and rhizosphere through to nutrient uptake and plant physiology, Joel will look at how growers can better understand and manage the biological and nutritional processes that support vine function.

The session will explore:

Soil biology and the rhizosphere – understanding the relationship between roots, microbes, soil structure and nutrient cycling.
Plant nutrition and vine health – nutrient balance, macro and micronutrients and how nutrition influences plant function.
Foliar nutrition – when foliar applications can be useful, nitrogen-use efficiency, trace elements, timing and application.
Testing and monitoring – making better use of soil, tissue and plant sap analysis to inform vineyard decisions.
Biological inputs – making sense of biofertilisers, biostimulants, composts and other biological products, including what to consider before investing.
Putting it into practice – how to identify where change is needed, introduce new approaches and determine whether they are actually working.

Rather than prescribing a particular farming system, the session will focus on understanding the processes occurring within the vineyard and using that knowledge to make better-informed management decisions.

There will also be time to put your questions to Joel and discuss how these principles can be applied under McLaren Vale conditions.
