You Can Be the Calm Within the Storm – Music, Words & Healing

In times of uncertainty and distress, music can offer a precious opportunity to pause, breathe and reconnect with ourselves.

Join Christopher Latham OAM, Professor David Slucki and Dr Merav Carmeli for a special Music & Healing session, created to provide a space for reflection, calm and renewal. Through music, meditation, imagery and texts, the session will invite participants to slow down, release tension and reconnect with a sense of inner peace.

Christopher will perform a selection of beautiful and reflective pieces on the violin, accompanied by calming visual imagery and lead a guided meditation. David and Merav will share carefully selected texts. Together, live music, mindfulness, imagery and words will create a supportive environment in which participants can step away from the noise and pressures of everyday life and experience the restorative power of music.

This special session offers an opportunity to find moments of calm and discover a renewed sense of connection and strength within a supportive community.

Christopher Latham OAM is an acclaimed musician, artistic director and former member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. He has performed internationally and directed major Australian music festivals. He is the director of Flowers of Peace, a project that uses music and visual art to explore the human and cultural cost of war. In 2024, Christopher curated and directed Kaddish: A Holocaust Memorial with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, combining music, projected imagery and narration to promote remembrance, healing and a deeper understanding of historical trauma.

Professor David Slucki is Director of the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation and the Loti Smorgon Chair of Contemporary Jewish Life and Culture at Monash University. A historian, he has written extensively on Jewish life and culture after the Holocaust, as well as antisemitism and Jewish life in Australia. He leads the Monash Initiative for Rapid Research into Antisemitism and co-leads Monash University’s Campus Cohesion project with Dr Susan Carland.

Dr Merav Carmeli is Director of the Lamm Jewish Library of Australia. She is passionate about creating programs that bring together Jewish culture, history, music and community, and has developed numerous initiatives exploring memory and Jewish identity.
