Integrating language and content in the classroom for EAL/D

EAL/D students come to school with rich knowledge and experiences, but it can be challenging for them to connect this to classroom learning. In this webinar, Kylie and Marianne will discuss a useful way of framing language in primary and secondary settings and will show how this relates to the learning of both (English) language and content.Dr Kylie Bradfield (Monash University) is a Lecturer in the School of Curriculum, Teaching and Inclusive Education, specialising in primary literacy. With around 30 years' experience across Australia and the UK, she leads Monash's short course "Addressing the Needs of EAL Students – Primary" and received the Australian Literacy Educators' Association National Service Award in 2025.
Associate Professor Marianne Turner (Monash University) is Associate Professor in Bilingual Education and TESOL. Her research focuses on translanguaging and integrating language into everyday teaching. She is the author of Multilingualism as a Resource and a Goal (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019) and an experienced presenter to teacher audiences, including as a keynote speaker for VicTESOL.
