The Fiction + The Gas Babies (George Lane Matinee Sessions)
Two legendary names from Melbourne's original punk and garage underground return for one very special afternoon.
Fresh from rehearsals for their October tour of Japan, The Fiction hit the George Lane stage with their infectious blend of razor-sharp pop, punk energy and irresistible hooks.
Originally formed in 1978, The Fiction were there at the birth of Melbourne punk, sharing the scene with The Boys Next Door, La Femme and Teenage Radio Stars. Their debut single released under the name Little Murders "Things Will Be Different" backed with "Take Me I'm Yours" has become one of the classic Australian punk/pop singles of its era.
After reforming in 2015, the band has enjoyed a remarkable second chapter, touring Japan twice, releasing three acclaimed albums on Off The Hip Records, and continuing to prove that great songs never go out of style.
Featuring members of Little Murders, Blue Ruin and International Exiles, The Fiction also welcomes powerhouse new drummer Andrew Nunns as they prepare to take their music back to Japan.
Sharing the bill are The Gas Babies one of St Kilda's great underground rock 'n' roll bands.
Originally formed in 1984, The Gas Babies draw their sound from the raw energy of 1960s garage rock and 1970s rock 'n' roll. Every member either grew up in, or still calls, St Kilda home, making this a genuine hometown celebration.
With members drawn from The Virgins, Young Savages, Little Murders, The Jets, Rumour Control, End Result, White Elephants, A.E.I.O.U. and Z-Cars, the band's history runs deep through Melbourne's independent music scene. Their original rehearsal room was a former meat cool room tucked behind a butcher's shop on Carlisle Street, Balaclava.
Now they're back.
Louder. Tougher. Still gloriously rock 'n' roll.
