Bonis Trio: Colours of a Scene
Alyse Faith, flute
Ye Jin Choi, cello
Yi-Shing Cheng, piano
Bonis Trio is a new flute, cello and piano ensemble formed by three graduates of the Royal Academy of Music in London. While all three members studied in London, the trio was formed where the members now live in Melbourne.
The program for the trio's concert, Colours of a Scene spans from the Romantic period to the present day, including the music of French Romantic composer Mel Bonis, after whom the trio is named, to Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin.
A thread running through the program is its evocative imagery. Bonis's Scènes de la Forêt takes us into the forest, Kats-Chernin's Colours of the Sea is inspired by what is vibrating under the surface of the ocean and Amy Beach's Pastorale and Caprice evokes the sparkling world of mythical water sprites. The program ends with Farrenc’s Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano which brings the drama and lyricism of the Romantic period.
PROGRAM
