ATTADADS YEAR 6 GETAWAY — ROTTNEST ISLANDFriday 11 – Sunday 13 September 2026
A weekend on Rotto for Year 6 kids and their dads and father figures. No agenda beyond riding bikes, swimming, fishing, eating too much at the bakery and sending this cohort off properly before high school.
WHERE WE'RE STAYING
Governor Circle at Kingstown — four 13-bed cottages, 52 beds all up, held exclusively for us. Bunk beds in separate bedrooms, each house with its own kitchen, bathrooms and BBQ courtyard. All bedding, linen, pillows and bath towels are provided. Kingstown is a short ride from the main settlement.
WHAT YOUR TICKET COVERS
Two nights' accommodation at Governor Circle. That's it — we've deliberately kept the ticket to accommodation only so the headline cost stays low and families choose their own ferry, food and activities.
WHAT YOU ARRANGE YOURSELF
• Return ferry to Rottnest, booked individually (see below)
• Meals — a mix of group cooking at the cottages, the bakery, and a Saturday pub dinner
• Bike hire or bike transfer, if you want wheels
• Any optional activities
THE WEEKEND
FRIDAY
From 2:00pm — meet at Gage Roads Brew Co, Victoria Quay, Fremantle
Afternoon ferry to Rottnest, then check in at Kingstown
Group BBQ at the cottages, sunset around 6pm
SATURDAY
Breakfast together at the houses
Island bike ride and treasure hunt
Beach sports, swimming and snorkelling
Fishing session
Dinner at the pub, then beach cricket
SUNDAY
Breakfast together
Check-out 9:00am — bags can be stored, the island is yours
Head home on the ferry of your choice
GETTING THERE
Book your own return ferry from Fremantle. Most of the group is on the mid-afternoon Friday sailing — check the group chat for the exact service before you book.
Ballpark return fares including island admission (extended/overnight return):
• Rottnest Express, B Shed Fremantle — adult about $92.50; child 4–12 about $48.00, or about $14.50 if you register for the free Quokka Club, which gives WA kids 4–12 free ferry travel
• SeaLink, O'Connor Landing Victoria Quay — adult about $97.00; child 4–12 about $50.50
Quokka Club is worth about $34 per child, so check whether your child qualifies before booking. It cuts out the day they turn 13.
BIKES
Bring your own — bike transfer on the ferry is roughly $20 per bike — or hire on the island from Pedal & Flipper, about $62 for an adult and $41 for a child across the weekend, plus a refundable deposit. Helmets are compulsory in WA.
WHAT TO BRING
Bedding and towels are supplied. Pack:
• Warm layers, a rain jacket and long pants — September on Rotto is 12–20°C and can blow
• Bathers, beach towel, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
• Closed-toe shoes plus thongs
• Bike, helmet and lock if you're bringing your own
• Head torch or torch — Kingstown is dark at night
• Snorkel gear, fishing rod and tackle if you have them
• Refillable water bottle and a day pack
• Any medication, clearly labelled, plus your child's Medicare details
• Cards, board games, a footy and a cricket set
• Phone charger and a power board to share
• Rubbish bags — we leave the houses as we found them
HOUSE RULES
• One person per bed. RIA does not permit extra beds, mattresses or additional guests.
• Every child must be with their named responsible adult for the whole weekend. Unaccompanied kids can be sent home on the next ferry by the Island Authority.
• Island quiet time is 11pm–7am. Respect the neighbours.
• Each house has a nominated captain who holds the key and is responsible for the house at check-out.
• Dads are responsible for their own kids at all times. This is a parent-supervised camp, not a school excursion.
TICKETS, REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS
The P&C has already paid Rottnest Island Authority in full and we are past the point where any of it can be recovered. Tickets are therefore non-refundable. If you can no longer come, you may transfer your place to another Year 6 family — let the organisers know so we can update the house lists and the Island Authority's guest register.
