Young Writers Studio
About
Young Writers Studio is a school-holiday writing program for young adults, running across all four seasons. Each session offers a supportive, low-pressure space to write, experiment, and develop creative ideas alongside others.Led by a guest facilitator each season, the studio focuses on writing as a practice rather than a performance. Participants are invited to write in different forms with no expectation to share or produce a finished piece.
Sessions include gentle prompts, dedicated writing time, and optional conversation, creating space for both new and experienced writers to explore their voice at their own pace.
Young Writers Studio values curiosity, accessibility, and creative confidence. It’s designed for young adults who want time and permission to write.
Young Writer Studio Spring: Beau Windon
Tuesday 29 September, 10am to 3pm
Writing Yourself in Strange and Exciting Ways
A workshop based on using lived experience and knowledge as a superpower in writing, whether its memoir, poetry or fiction . . . we have a lifetime of lived experiences so we’re silly not to button-mash that.
Beau Windon is a neurodivergent author of Wiradyuri heritage based in Naarm. His personal essays have been a winner of Griffith Review’s 2023 Emerging Voices competition and a finalist for the Writers Prize in the 2024 Melbourne Prize for Literature. In 2025, Beau’s poetry project was a finalist for the David Unaipon Award and he won the Daisy Utemorrah Award for his children’s manuscript. Beau is doing his PhD in the Aesthetic Form of Neurodivergent Literary Memoir. If Beau could be any animal, he would be a chocolate egg – the kind with a toy hidden inside.
For emerging writers, 14-25 years
