Adelaide German Week 2026 - From Berlin to Adelaide in 1849
About
When the Revolutions of 1848 failed, a group of remarkable radicals began meeting in the pubs of Berlin, seeking a new place to call home. They eventually settled in South Australia in 1849, where these 160 migrants brought fresh ideas, talents, and ambitions to the colony, leaving an unexpected legacy in science, art, education, and culture.Join award-winning historian Samuel Doering in the Thomas Cooper Room at the Original Coopers Alehouse to discover how a failed revolution - and a few beers in Berlin - helped change South Australia forever!
Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start.
