Chevron Apartments – Mandatory Fire Door Inspection

The Owners Corporation is arranging apartment entrance fire door inspections as part of the building’s fire safety requirements and ongoing response to Building Notice #478355.

What you need to do

1. Book one appointment per apartment. Provide your apartment number, building designation and contact details.
2. Ensure someone can provide access. You, your tenant or a nominated representative must be available throughout the booked time window.
3. Allow approximately 10–15 minutes for inspection. Your entrance door must be opened so the contractor can check the door, smoke seals and self-closing mechanism. Minor repairs may take additional time.

Owners booking for tenanted apartments must confirm the appointment and access arrangements with their tenants or managing agents.

Who pays?

• Inspection during the scheduled period: Paid for by the Owners Corporation.
• Defect rectification: Paid for by the apartment owner directly to the contractor.
• Separate attendance following missed access: Paid for by the apartment owner, including call-out and inspection costs.

Repairs identified during inspection

Minor repairs may be completed during the same visit where practical, subject to the owner’s approval of the costs. The owner must pay the contractor directly.

Any further works requiring a separate visit will be advised to the owner, together with the associated costs and arrangements.

If you do not provide access

If access is not provided during the scheduled inspection period, the owner must arrange a separate attendance with the contractor at their own expense. The inspection will still need to be completed.

Was your apartment missing from the earlier defect list?

If your door has not been inspected, it still needs to be checked. Its absence from the earlier defect list does not confirm that it is compliant.
