Honouring the life and legacy of one of our island’s extraordinary sons, Lafcadio Hearn.Born in Lefkada in 1850, Hearn carried the spirit of our island across continents, eventually settling in Japan, where he became known as Koizumi Yakumo and was embraced as one of the country’s most beloved interpreters of culture and folklore. This October, that remarkable story comes full circle, as the Brotherhood proudly welcomes Prof. Bon Koizumi — Lafcadio Hearn’s great-grandson and a tireless custodian of the family’s legacy — who will travel from Japan to join us here in Melbourne.
Held with the support of the Consulate-General of Japan, this event is more than a commemoration; it is a living bridge between Lefkada and Japan, between our past and our present. This year’s celebration takes as its theme “The Open Mind of Lafcadio Hearn” — a tribute to the curiosity and openness that carried him from a small Ionian island to the far side of the world.
The Dinner Dance will be held at the The Apollo Room, Cafe Greco Oakleigh.
Price: $120 members , $140 non-members
Includes : 3 course meal, beer wine soft drinks
Entertainment : Rythmos band.
