Gay Book Club: Swimming in the Dark
About
Our Gay Book Club is back with host Jason Davis, this month reading Swimming in the Dark by Polish author Tomasz Jedrowski.A Guardian Book of the Year in 2021, Swimming in the Dark is set in one perfect 1980s summer at an agricultural camp for university students where two young men fall in love. When they return to Warsaw, and its Communist society, their love cannot safely exist. One wants freedom, the other believes in compromise and survival. This novel asks whether you can keep on loving someone when you fundamentally disagree about the price of being yourself.
It's short, very sensual and atmospheric and we hope you'll fall in love with it, too.
Join us for an evening of discussion, a drink in hand, and the kind of conversation that only happens when the right book finds the right room. New to book club or a long-time regular, you're warmly welcome.
Each month Gay Book Club reads fiction from a queer male author and is attended by gay men and their allies, of any gender.
