About

Radio Dungog and Dungog Regional Tourism have collaborated, using funds from the Community Broadcasting Foundation, to produce a series of podcasts about the Dungog region.
It is hoped that this series is the first of a number to inform locals and visitors about the region and its interesting history.
The first series has largely been completed and will be launched at a function at Radio House Dungog in September.
In order to ensure that all of the Shire is covered, the first series has a podcast on each of the villages: Clarence Town, Gresford, Vacy and Paterson, as well as the Town of Dungog.
They give an excellent introduction to the history of the area, including acknowledgement of the Indigenous nations who were the first custodians of the land.
The project has only been possible with the cooperation and assistance of the Clarence Town Historical Society, Gresford Historical Society, Dungog Historical Society and the Paterson Historical Society, along with the support of Dungog Regional Tourism and the skills and facilities of Radio Dungog.
The project contracted the services of Therese Sweeney, who is an experienced historian as well as a producer of podcasts on local history.
It has been led by Nola McDonald, President of Radio Dungog and Cameron Archer, Chair of Dungog Regional Tourism. Narration of the podcasts has been done by Michael Beaumont of Radio Dungog.
It is hoped that this collaboration will continue and there will be more podcasts about the region.
There will be opportunities to sponsor podcast productions, and further details will be developed after this project has been launched.
The project has come at a time when Radio Dungog has moved from its very modest facilities in Brown Street to the new Radio House facilities in what was once the Girl Guides Hall on Dungog Showground. It also coincides with the completion by Dungog Regional Tourism of a comprehensive series of brochures, site information boards and maps of the area, covering each of the villages.
The podcasts will be initially broadcast by Radio Dungog and then be available from is website.
