At the heart of the concert are two of Henry Purcell's greatest masterpieces: the jubilant Te Deum, composed to celebrate the grandeur of the English Baroque, and the deeply moving Funeral Music for Queen Mary. Far from being sombre, Purcell's funeral music is renowned for its dignity, nobility and haunting beauty, offering moments of profound reflection and timeless musical expression.

The programme culminates in Louis Vierne's magnificent Messe Solennelle, one of the masterpieces of the French Romantic choral repertoire. Written for choir and organ, this thrilling work fills the cathedral with soaring melodies, rich harmonies and moments of breathtaking grandeur.
