PICHWAI ELEMENTS WORKSHOPPichwai art is a 400-year-old traditional style of intricate devotional painting originating near Udaipur in Rajasthan, India.
Traditionally painted on cloth, the artworks serve as hanging backdrops for the idol Shrinathji (Lord Krishna) in temples. Pichwai comes from the Sanskrit words pichh (back) and wai (hanging).
Common elements of Pichwai art include sacred cows, blooming lotuses, and peacocks.
At this relaxed 3-hour workshop, you will be introduced to the art of Pichwai and have the opportunity to complete your own interpretation using gouache on quality watercolour paper.
No experience is necessary. All materials supplied*.
*If you prefer not to work flat, please bring something to rest your board on, e.g. a box of tissues or a book. And if you have your own brushes for fine work, you are welcome to bring them.
