The UQ Taiko Japanese Drumming Team (aka UQ Taiko) were established in 2014 and has the team concept of 「みんなの太鼓」which in Japanese means, "Taiko drumming for anyone and everyone!".Staying true to this motto, ASME Qld invites you to join us to experience this form of traditional Japanese music and art that combines powerful beats with dynamic movements. Although intimately a part of Japanese culture for over 1000 years, taiko has now spread all around the world and captured many people's hearts with its lively, loud and energetic performances.
The UQ Taiko Team will begin the event by sharing their beautiful and powerful music, art and culture of traditional Japanese taiko drumming before giving you the chance to play yourself in a workshop environment. Following this, the team will provide inspiration on how you can use Taiko Drumming in your classroom and link its concepts to the Australian Curriculum.
This event includes the ASME Qld AGM and will conclude with an optional light lunch and the opportunity to sit in on composer workshops as part of our Young Composer Competition event which follows from 1-2pm .
