Dip into the wonderful world of clown and mime!
Clown and mime are a comic tale as old as time. In this workshop you will experience two different teachers' perspectives that will introduce you to this super fun field of play. Be prepared to surprise yourself!
This 1-day workshop will cover the following:
2 hours with Kimberley Twiner
Kimberley will focus on ‘clowns in action’. If the performer can turn their imagination into action then they can create fantastic worlds that capture the audience’s attention. This is the power of clown work - to create something from nothing. The clown will never be alone if they can say ‘yes’ to their own imagination. It is the performer's responsibility to PLAY! Mime is a most excellent doorway into silly, naive and outrageous imagined scenarios for the clowns to play in.

2 hours with Duncan Cameron
As a clown it’s incredibly important to listen to your audiences. Our performance is a conversation with them and if you’re sensitive enough you can really make a unique experience together.
In our session you will work on developing your spirit as a performer through skills like mime, musicality and clown. The focus is on the non-verbal aspect of performance and will give a certain special quality to your performance that will help you engage your audiences.

Who is it for?
Anyone who wants to learn! There is no pre-requisite to join this workshop and there is no application process, it is for anyone who is curious about clowning and mime. The work will be physical though participants will be asked to work to their own capacity.
What to wear/bring?
Participants will need to wear black or dark clothes that are fairly neutral, preferably no bright colours or bright patterns. Stretchy work out wear is best. No jeans, skirts, dresses or clothes that reveal a lot of skin. Please bring a water bottle and lunch. There will be a one hour break in the middle of the day. You can take notes on a note pad during the break. CLOWN NOSE: If you own one please bring your own red nose. We will bring some spares but if you have your own please bring it.
IMPORTANT
Filming or photographing the workshop in session is strictly prohibited and ‘smart glasses’ are banned from our work.

Kimberley Twiner
Kimberley (she/they) is a theatre performer, director, teacher and producer based in Naarm. She is Director of the Melbourne Physical Theatre School - a training platform grounded in the Lecoq Methodology of theatre, movement and physical comedy training. Her most recent comedy-theatre work ‘Stickybeak’ won ‘Best Comedy’ at Melbourne Fringe 2023. She has both directed and performed in numerous award-winning physical comedy shows. Her 2020 work: The Wholesome Hour won the Green Room Award for Theatre Design and her various ensembles have received nominations in the ensemble and contemporary performance categories. She is Artistic Director of queer feminist comedy troupe PO PO MO CO. She is one half of contemporary clown company Fish &Twiner’s Bait Shop. She is director of The Travelling Sisters' catalogue of award-winning comedy shows. She is part of the lockdown dance sensation The Brunswick East Entertainment Festival.
Kimberley's speciality areas of performance are Clown, Bouffon, Character, Mask and Mime practiced through the Lecoq Methodology of Movement Studies. She has studied at Helikos International Theatre School under Giovanni Fusetti, John Bolton Theatre School, Gaulier and Commedia dell’Arte with Cecilia Di Donato at (Fava School Italy). Kimberley graduated from Fine Arts Drama at QUT, Brisbane in 2009 she has also completed 3 years Gestalt Psychotherapy training.
Duncan Cameron
Duncan Cameron is a performer and theatre maker from Canada who, after winning gold and silver medals in national tournaments of the Canadian Improv Games, went to study at international theatre school Ecole Philippe Gaulier in 2012-2013.
Specializing in clown, bouffon, mime, street theatre and cabaret, he has worked in performances internationally with companies such as Stufish, A Ship of Fools, Little Soldiers Productions, Action Transport Theatre, Ramshacklicious, The Invisible Circus, Stuff and Nonsense, Tmesis, as well as his own company based in Liverpool, Teatro Pomodoro, known for their award winning show “Cabaret From The Shadows” and more recently “Peep Show – Battle Royale”.
Duncan is currently touring with Cirque Du Soleil as one of their principle clowns.
His other interests include playing piano accordion, harmonica, occasionally the bagpipes and he has a keen interest in Mexican Wrestling.
