This workshop focuses on Microsoft Copilot, as most practitioners already have access to Microsoft 365 in their practice. Copilot offers one of the easiest entry points into AI due to its seamless integration with tools practitioners use every day, including Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams.

The session combines practical demonstrations with interactive exercises and will cover data privacy, governance considerations, and real-world legal applications of AI.

Ethics, Professional Responsibility and AI
This component of the workshop is designed to familiarise practitioners with the ethical, professional and regulatory considerations associated with AI tools. 

Topics include:
AI and the Solicitors’ Conduct Rules
Consumer vs enterprise AI tools
AI and courts - a review of guidance frameworks

Practical AI Workshop - please bring your laptop or similar electronic device as this is a hands-on workshop
A two hour hands-on workshop using Enterprise Copilot in a sandboxed training environment. This includes the following.

  • Introduction to Copilot and its capabilities
  • Understanding Copilot's limitations
  • Drafting with AI
  • Using AI to improve workflow
  • Minutes of meetings
  • File notes
  • Dictation and voice-based workflow
  • Reviews of large volumes of information
  • AI as a research and strategy tool - advantages and limitations 

Presenter
Mark Ferraretto, the founder of Digital Law Lab, is a practising solicitor and the principal of Mark Ferraretto Legal Practice. Mark had a career in IT of over 20 years before returning to study law. Mark was admitted into practice in 2017 and practised in commercial and family law. Mark was previously an academic at Flinders University, where he developed and taught legal technology topics that taught students coding skills and guided them in developing legal technology applications for not-for-profit organisations.

The Society's building at 56 Charles Street, Launceston was built in 1860 and there is no lift or disability access to the upstairs rooms.
