What does it mean to encounter an Other—not as an object of interpretation, but as a presence capable of unsettling what we think we know?In this participatory conversation, Craig San Roque and Stefano Carta draw upon their experiences of living and working across cultural worlds to explore the responsibility of the psychotherapist to the place, time and culture in which they practise. Together, we will consider how encounters with other people, cultures, languages and ways of seeing may reveal the limits of our own assumptions, inherited theories and therapeutic practices. Rather than seeking to know or explain the Other, this conversation invites us to remain with uncertainty, to become more attentive to what we see and fail to see, and to consider how genuine encounter might change both our practice and ourselves.
