Kikezuri | Wood Shaving Workshop with Gavin Roberts
About
Kikezuri is a style of Japanese “wood shaving” in which small shapes and forms are created for the simple purpose of making something you can keep in your pocket or hold in your hand. Wood shaving is different from wood carving in the fact that you are not in charge of deciding the end result, you must listen to the wood you are holding in your hands and allow the wood to guide you as you shave it as it is meant to be shaped.“Each tree contains wood with different characteristics and energy”
In this workshop you get to escape the world and not think about anything other than the wood you are holding, an ancient wooden stress reliever, where the act of shaping becomes a form of relaxation in itself. During the shaping process we learn to open ourselves up and listen to the energy that each piece of wood possesses. There is much to learn from Kikezuri and I encourage everyone try it to create a small heirloom for yourself or others to hold.
All materials supplied. This workshop is for adults and teens 16+. Please note we cannot offer refunds for non-attendance.
