World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) Preliminary 2026—one of the most popular math competitions among MathInside Studio students and parents—will officially take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

WMTC strongly emphasizes teamwork and collaboration. Beyond individual problem-solving skills, the competition requires team members to communicate effectively, allocate tasks strategically, and take joint responsibility to perform well as a unit.

The competition questions for both the preliminaries and finals are authored by experienced mathematicians and Olympiad educators from around the world. These problems help Australian students broaden their mathematical vision and deepen their understanding of mathematical theories and applications. Furthermore, local preliminary results will be ranked globally against international competitors.

Since 2021, hundreds of students from dozens of Melbourne schools have participated across all WMTC divisions, achieving outstanding results. The Studio forms 6-member teams with similar math proficiency from various schools. Under our guidance, students engage in hours of self-driven discussion, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. Studying mathematics can often be a solitary journey, so making like-minded friends along the way is a truly rewarding experience.

Pre-Competition Icebreaker Event

To help participants familiarize themselves with the competition format and foster team bonding, MathInside Studio hosts an annual icebreaker event. This vibrant gathering has become a highly anticipated annual tradition for local math enthusiasts and families.

• Location: Box Hill Community Arts Centre

• Highlights: In addition to team-based mock sessions, the 2026 event will feature an AI Conference, an Empowerment Self-Defense Workshop, MathsInside Quiet Mind Corner (Chess, Rubis Cube, Gravitrax, Puzzles...) and specialized lectures for parents focusing on math learning at the Studio as well as local Victorian tax reforms.

最受工作室同学和家长欢迎的世界数学团队锦标赛 WMTC（WORLD MATHEMATICS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP）的2026年预赛将于10月4日正式进行。世界数学团体锦标赛（WMTC）强调注重团队合作的精神，竞赛本身要求参赛队员既要充分发挥个人的才智，又要努力和同组队员沟通与合作。他们需要更好地了解自己的团队成员，学会分工合作，有担当负责任，以团队为单位完成比赛。 预赛和决赛的题目都是来自各国有多年数学竞赛领域经验的数学家和数学竞赛教育者，可以拓宽澳洲学生的数学知识面，增强对数学理论和应用的理解。比赛结果也可以和其他国家和地区的参赛选手统一排名。WMTC 2026年决赛将于12月2日到6日在泰国举办，预赛中本地各级别前三名的团队都有资格参加决赛，届时，团队和工作室可协商是否组团赴海外参加。

工作室非常鼓励各位同学尝试此项赛事。2021-2025年，墨尔本地区已经有数十所学校、几百名学生参加了WMTC三个级别的比赛。 我们的学生们在各个级别中都取得了非常好的成绩。来自不同学校、数学程度较为接近的6人小组，在工作室的指导下自发讨论、互动、切磋…每次几个小时的投入，更让我们和家长们惊讶不已、难以忘怀。数学的学习和思考是孤独的，前行的路上有志同道合的朋友，尤为珍贵。

为了帮助参赛学生熟悉比赛流程和题目并促进团队的合作，每年工作室也会在赛前组织破冰活动。 活动形式多样、丰富多彩，受到家长和同学们的广泛称赞，已经成为墨尔本地区数学爱好者的每年一次的欢乐聚会。2026年PWMTC破冰活动将于9月6日周日晚在Box Hill Community Arts Centre举行，与往年相比又有所不同，除了团队部分的分组模拟，我们还引入了AI Conference、Empowerment Self-Defense和针对家长的工作室数学学习的讲座以及维州税务改革专业讲座等。

• Advanced Division: High school students born in or after 2008

Key Information & Event Schedule

Background：
WMTC is founded by Prof. Quan K. Lam from University of California, the chairman of ARML International, and Mr. Zhou Guozhen, the founder of the Hope Cup in China. This competition would differ from many other mathematics competitions such as American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) and International Math Olympiad (IMO). It would be a team–oriented competition where competing students from all over the world. They would compete with each other while sharing their experience and culture with other international teams through touring famous sights of that location and other academic and cultural activities together.  

The WMTC 2026 World Finals will take place in Thailand from December 2 to December 6, 2026. The top three teams in each division of the preliminary round will qualify for the global finals, with optional overseas participation arranged in consultation with the Studio.

MathInside Studio was founded in 2019 in Melbourne, the education centre of Australia, by Mr Vince Sun, who worked as a senior strategy analyst, but loves Mathematics and won the Gold Prize of CMO and engaged in Mathematical Olympiad learning and training for many years. Combining Mr Vince Sun's personal Math Olympiad experience and the Australian Curriculum of Mathematics, the Studio is passionate about adventuring mathematical problems connecting to the real world with young students. Our students have made significant improvements in not only their daily study and competitions but also their passion for mathematics and the way of thinking that may benefit them in their whole lives.
