Presented with the support of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, this special concert brings together Hong Kong’s renowned professional Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble (Hong Kong) and Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra (Melbourne) for an inspiring musical exchange. The concert showcases innovative arrangements of Cantonese music and beloved Cantonese popular songs, alongside works that reflect the musical traditions of both Hong Kong and Australia.Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble will present the featured work Echoes of Hong Kong Victoria Peak, taking audiences on a musical journey through Hong Kong. The ensemble will also perform a selection of Cantonese music and Cantonese popular songs, creatively reimagined through innovative arrangements, including Temple Street Tango, New Colourful Moonlight Over the City, Moonlight, A Life of Struggle, The Everlasting Leslie Cheung and Hong Kong Forever: A Medley of Joseph Koo’s Classics.
The programme will also feature a collaboration with renowned Australia-based banhu performer Dongyan Ma, who will join the ensemble for Moonlit Night in the Northeast.
Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra will present works reflecting both Australian and Chinese musical influences, including Kookaburra and Towards a Brighter Future.
The concert will conclude with Cantonese Melodies Together, a collaborative performance by the two orchestras featuring a selection of classic works by celebrated Cantonese music master Wencheng Lü. Bringing musicians from Hong Kong and Melbourne together on one stage, the finale celebrates the enduring friendship and cultural connections between the two communities through the shared language of music.
