The profound alteration of perspective is akin to the microscope of the 18th century, conjuring a teeming citadel of organisms within a plain droplet of pond water to the astonished gaze of the scientist.
Peter Tuthill is a professor of astronomy working at the University of Sydney. He is an expert in making extremely high-resolution images of distant celestial objects, and has pioneered new technologies and instruments at observatories around the globe and in space. He is the only Australian scientist to fly an experiment aboard NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, and is now leading his own Australian-built space mission: the TOLIMAN telescope to study exoplanets in Alpha Centauri.
Join him at MAPh as he opens 'The splendid light' with a keynote address, speaking to the vastness of the cosmos and the instruments used to bring it into view here on Earth.
