Beginners Crochet Course – 6 Week CourseTutor: Julie Penn – Accredited Crochet Teacher with Crochet Guild Australia
Would you love to learn crochet but don’t know where to start?
Join Julie for a friendly and relaxed 6-week beginners crochet course at the Community Gardens at the Old Cheese Factory.
Learn the basics of crochet at your own pace, with plenty of friendly guidance and individual help along the way. No previous crochet experience is needed.
Over six weeks, Julie will guide you through the basic crochet skills and stitches you need to confidently begin making your own projects.
You’ll start with practice swatches and learn:
• How to hold your hook and yarn
• Understanding tension
• Slip knots and chains
• Single crochet
• Half double crochet
• Double crochet
• Increasing and skipping stitches
• Using stitch markers
• UK and US crochet terminology
• Granny stitch and granny squares
• Changing colours
• Joining and finishing your work
A pattern will be provided so you can use your new stitches to make a facecloth or dishcloth.
As your confidence grows, you’ll move on to granny squares and have the opportunity to make a small bag, phone or AirPod holder, strap or simple crochet flowers.
The final week will give you time to finish your project, catch up on anything you have missed, receive individual help and look at other projects you may like to try next.
Everyone learns differently, so there is no pressure to keep up with the group. The course is designed to provide a friendly and supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace.
