We are excited to welcome Dr Matthew Pugh and Dr Tobyn Bell from the UK to Australia to deliver this practical three-day intensive training in chairwork.
Chairwork is a powerful experiential approach that can be integrated into a range of evidence-based therapies and is particularly valuable when working with eating disorders, self-criticism, shame, perfectionism, emotional distress and ambivalence about change.
The training will be especially relevant for clinicians working with CBT, Compassion Focused Therapy and Schema Therapy, and will provide practical techniques that can be incorporated into your clinical work immediately.
Across the three days, participants will:
* Learn the foundations and key principles of effective chairwork
* Experience chairwork through self-practice and reflection
* Practise interventions through live demonstrations and role-plays
* Learn applications for eating disorder thoughts, self-criticism, shame and recovery ambivalence
* Develop skills for working with emotions, difficult beliefs, trauma and interpersonal difficulties
* Learn how to use chairwork to strengthen self-compassion and support behaviour change
* Learn how to adapt chairwork for online therapy
The training draws on Compassion Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy, CBT, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Psychodrama and Voice Dialogue.
This is an interactive, skills-based training, rather than a lecture. You will have extensive opportunities to observe, experience and practise the techniques.

CPD:** Approximately 21 hours
